About Bean

Bean is a kind of herbaceous climbing, leguminous plant which is eaten as vegetable. Its leafs are triple compound and its flowers are whole. It contains 25% protein, 55% carbohydrate, 4% cellulose, 2% fat and 10% water.


Its origin is South America and many types of bean is farmed in temperate and tropical regions (Phaseolus).


Its main types:


Mungo bean (Phaseolus mungo) is green, yellow, black grainy and is farmed in far east.

Madagascar bean (Phaseolus lunatus) is widely farmed in tropical countries. However some of its varieties are toxic.


Spanish bean (Phaseolus multiflorus) is eaten as vegetable, besides it's farmed as foliage plant.


Tepari bean (Phaseolus acutifolius) is farmed under arid climate.


Common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) is the most farmed type and has many varieties. It passed Europe from South varieties are french bean, sugar bean, green bean and kidney bean.
